Insurance Building Profile
We Understand
Dealing with project restoration and repair work, where someone's property, home or business has been damaged, is an emotional roller coaster. Generally the damage has been caused by a natural phenomena, an accidental incident or malicious acts and in nearly all situations, has resulted in personal loss. In severe cases the loss can lead to despair, whether the person(s) is insured or not. Whether an accidental kitchen fire, or a cyclone affecting a large area and many residents, the pain is obvious. The upside of the roller coaster ride only becomes evident once the property has been suitably repaired and the tenant/resident/owner has full use of their environment once more.
In most circumstanes in today's society, the building, property or business owner (the insured party) is protected to a large degree by an insurance policy. Interpreting insurance policies and product disclosure statements (PDS) can be confusing and it is important that the insured understands the inclusions and limitations of their policy. Many insurance companies will have a Policy Facts Sheet explaining and setting out some of the conditions, excesses, exclusions and limits in respect to the policy to help you understand your level of cover. Your policy will normally also cover you for temporary alternative accommodation in the event your property needs to be vacated for building repair works. Please speak to your insurer to clarify any of your uncertainties.

Typical Flood & Storm Repair Process for Insured Parties
Step 1 - Lodge Your Claim
Contact your insurer and advise them of the incident, confirm the claim process and lodge your claim as soon as possible.
Step 2 - Emergency Make Safe
This step is designed to eliminate risk. Your insurer will have allocated your claim to a builder who will attend to urgent matters such as electrical disconnection, storage of undamaged contents, cleaning and sanitising and drying preparation.
Step 3 - Scope Assessment
The builder and/or insurance assessor will attend the property to formulate a scope of work and methodology for repairs & rebuilds. A loss adjuster will assess the damage of contents.
Step 4 - Damage Mitigation & Drying
The builder will attend to mitigation works determined in the assessment such as removing water damaged elements, installation of floor protection and attend to sanitising the walls, floors & ceilings to reduce the impact of mould & bacteria growth.
Step 5 - Restore & Repair Phase
The builder would have received approval from the insurer to carry out work mutually agreed in the assessment. The customer/insured party will sign a repair contract with the builder & the repairs can begin.
Step 6 - Inspection & Handover
At the end of the works the builder and the customer will sign off on the completeness & quality of the work and the customer will have received their property back in at least an "as was" condition.
